Question : Mission on Edible Oilseeds and Oil Palm

(a) whether to reduce the dependency of imports for edible oils, the Government launched any Mission on edible Oilseeds & Palm Oil plantation;

(b) if so, the details of the response received for the Mission;

(c) if not, the reasons therefor;

(d) the details of area of crops sowed since the of launch of the Mission; crop-wise, district-wise & State-wise;

(e) whether any targets have been set in this regard; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c): The Government of India has been implementing a Centrally Sponsored Scheme, National Food Security Mission- Oilseeds & Oil palm (NFSM-OS&OP) from 2018-19 to augment the availability of vegetable oils and to reduce the import of edible oils by increasing production and productivity of oilseeds and area expansion of Oil palm & Tree Borne Oilseeds (TBOs) in the country. For the period 2021-22 to 2025-26, the National Mission on Edible Oils - Oil Palm (NMEO-OP) has been launched with the aim to augment the availability of edible oil in the country by harnessing area expansion, increasing crude palm oil production with the aim to reduce the import burden. The total approved cost of the NMEO (Oil Palm) Scheme is ?11,040 crore.

(d) to (f): State-wise, crop-wise sown area of Oilseeds and state-wise oil palm area covered under National Food Security Mission-Oilseeds & Oil Palm (NFSM-OS&OP) during 2018-19 to 2020-21 are at Annexure-I and Annexure-II respectively. The target of the mission is to produce up to 54.10 million tonnes of oilseeds and increase the edible oil production upto 18 million tonnes by 2025-26.
