Question : Digital Technology

(a) whether the Government is planning to set up Digital Classroom Theatre facility in education
sector to overcome several snags in our education system and help equip the students and
teachers in better way;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) the steps taken by the Government to harness the benefits of digital technology and to pentrate
the technology from primary education level?

(a) & (b) No Madam. At present Government has no proposal of setting up Digital Classroom
Theatre facility in education sector.
(c) The Ministry of Human Resource Development under National Mission on Education through
Information Communication Technology (NMEICT) programme has got e-Content prepared for a
number of Under Graduate & Post Graduate courses including engineering subjects, by leading
Institutions in the country and the content is available on the SAKSHAT Portal. Campus
Connectivity has been provided to more than 400 universities and 22,000 colleges, with a
bandwidth of 1 GBPS & upto 20 connections of 512 KBPS respectively. The SWAYAM project has
also been proposed through which online courses would be made accessible to the students given
by the best teachers across the Country.
National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has uploaded e-Content for
use of Primary and Secondary students in e-Pathashala and National Repository of Open
Educational Resources (NROER). In order to ensure transparency through use of digital
technology, Shaala Darpan (School Management System) and National Programme on School
Standards and Evaluation (NPSSE) known as Shaala Siddhi (comprehensive instrument for school
evaluation) and Saransh (enhanced interaction between schools and parents for performance
monitoring of students and schools based on Class IX -XII CBSE results) are being implemented.
Using digital technology, Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping of schools across the
country is undertaken to facilitate better planning/ decision making. GIS mapping is complete in
74% of schools so far. Further, under Information and Communication Technology component of
Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), broadband internet connection of at least 2 MBPS
is also approved in the schools.
