MINISTER OF HEAVY INDUSTRIES AND PUBLIC ENTERPRISES (SHRI PRAFUL PATEL)
(a) to (c): No, Madam. Government of India has not issued any
guidelines for automobile industry to upgrade engines of all car
models to make them pollution free. However, it is mandatory
for the industry to manufacture vehicles as per standards
prescribed under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR), 1989.
Accordingly, as per the Auto Fuel Policy, the Automotive
Industry has already introduced BS-IV norm compliant vehicles
in the metro cities, which are more stringent and will help
reduce pollution emanating from vehicles significantly.
