Question : DISPARITY IN WAGES



(a)whether the Government is aware of the huge disparity in wages and the denial of equal minimum wages to various workers including women workers, regular and contract workers, workers in formal and informal sectors etc., inspite of the same nature of work;

(b)if so, the details of inspections conducted and prosecutions made against the offender under Equal Remuneration Act, 1976 and the mechanism put in place by the Government for effective implementation of the Act;

(c)whether the Government has proposed to formulated any new policy to ensure equal pay for equal works; and

(d)if so, the details thereof and the other remedial measures taken by the Government to address the issue?

(a) & (b) : Regular inspections are carried out by the officers of Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) under the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976 to detect and find out any disparity in wages given to women workers in comparison to the male workers. The details of inspections conducted and prosecutions launched etc. under the Equal Remuneration Act, 1976 are at Annexure.
