Question : Funds for Sports Infrastructure

(a) whether the Government has allocated funds to the State of Maharashtra and Bihar for development of sports infrastructure and training facilities during each of the last three years and the current year;

(b) if so, the details of the funds allocated and utilised during the said period;

(c) whether the Government has received any proposal to open the Regional Centre of Sports Authority of India and National Sports Academy from the States of Bihar and Maharashtra, if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the steps taken by the Government to establish the Regional Centre of Sports Authority of India and National Sports Academy at Mumbai and Nagpur and in different districts in Maharashtra and Bihar?

(a) to (d) Yes, Sir. Under the “Utilisation and creation/upgradation of sports infrastructure” component of the Khelo India Scheme, this Ministry has sanctioned 23 sports infrastructure projects of various categories in the States of Maharashtra (12) and Bihar (11). The details of these projects are at Annexure. Further, 28 sports academies have been accreditated, and one Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) at Shivchhatrapati Sports Complex, Balewadi, Pune, and 44 district-level Khelo India Centres (KICs) have been approved in the State of Maharashtra under the Khelo India Scheme. All of the above projects and centres have been sanctioned on the basis of the proposals received from the respective State Governments. In addition, the Sports Authority of India (SAI) already has one Regional Centre at Mumbai, Maharashtra and three SAI Training Centres (STCs) in Bihar - at Patna, Kishanganj and Giddaur.
