(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the details of hydroelectric and thermal power plants installed in the State of Odisha during the last three years and the current year, district-wise; and

(d) the details of progress of such projects undertaken in Odisha along with the estimated time frame within which these are likely to be completed?

Answer given by the minister

THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) FOR POWER, NEW & RENEWABLE ENERGY AND THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR SKILL DEVELOPMENT & ENTREPRENEURSHIP

(SHRI R.K. SINGH)

(a) & (b) : Hydro Electric Projects (HEPs) are allotted to Central, State and Private Sector developers by the concerned State Government. Further, as per Section 8 of Electricity Act, 2003, any generating company intending to set-up a hydro generating station shall prepare and submit to Central Electricity Authority (CEA) for its concurrence, a scheme estimated to involve a capital expenditure exceeding such sum, as may be fixed by the Central Government, from time to time.

As per information provided by CEA, a total of 79 HEPs (above 25 MW) aggregating to an Installed Capacity of 32012 MW (Annexure) have been envisaged for being set up during the period 2020-21 to 2029-30, out of which 510 MW capacity has since been commissioned during 2020-21. It includes 29 HEPs with an aggregate Installed Capacity of 13459 MW for development in Central/Joint Sector.

Hydro power being Clean & Green source of energy, would help in reducing pollution apart from providing balancing power for smooth integration of renewables like Solar & Wind power which are intermittent & variable source of power.

(c) & (d) : As per information provided by CEA, no hydro-electric plant (above 25 MW) has been installed in the State of Odisha during the last three years and, at present, no hydro-electric plant is under construction in Odisha.
