Question : Housing and Water Facilities

Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) whether the Government has failed to provide facilities like housing, drinking water in the ratio of increasing urbanisation in the country;

(b) the steps taken/being taken to set up and strengthen housing and drinking water projects in the cities;

(c) whether people are facing housing and drinking water related problems in the major cities of the country;

(d) if so, the details thereof;

(e) whether the Government has made any effort to solve the said problems in the said cities during the last three years; and

(f) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (f): Provision of facilities like housing, drinking water etc. falls under the purview of State Government. However, Government of India supports the efforts of State Governments by providing technical and financial assistance to States under various schemes & programmes.

Government of India through its schemes like Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) and recently launched ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY)–(Urban) provides central assistance to States/Uts for addressing housing requirement of all urban poor. State/UT wise details of houses sanctioned for urban poor during last three years under PMAY (Urban) is given in Annexure – I. Government of India has also launched Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) for basic infrastructure development of 500 cities/towns having a population of 1 lakh as per 2011 Census and certain other categories of towns having notified as Municipalities across the country. The primary focus of the Mission is on universal coverage of Water Supply and Sewerage in the Mission Cities. Under AMRUT Mission Government of India approves State Annual Action Plan (SAAP) submitted by the State Governments. Details of Water Supply approved by MoHUA under SAAP under AMRUT Scheme is given in Annexure –II.
