(a) the number of AIDS and HIV positive cases reported in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and North-Eastern States during each of the last three years;
(b) the steps taken to provide proper treatment to these patients;
(c) whether the Government have formulated any crash programme to tackle this alarming situation;
(d) if so, the details thereof; and
(e) if not, the specific steps taken in Orissa under the National AIDS Control Programme during the above period?

a) The number of HIV/AIDS cases during the last three years in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and North-Eastern States is annexed.
b) The AIDS cases are provided treatment in all government hospitals without discrimination, free of cost for opportunistic infections.
(c) (d) & (e) In order to prevent and control the spread of HIV/AIDS in India, a comprehensive Programme is currently under implementation throughout the country as a
centrally sponsored scheme ( including the State of Orissa). The main components consists of :-
Reducing the spread of HIV in groups at high risk by identification of target populations and providing peer counseling, condom promotion and treatment of sexually transmitted infections.
Preventive intervention for the general population by Information, Education and Communication (IEC) and awareness campaign, provision of voluntary testing and counseling, safe blood transfusion services and prevention of occupational exposure.
Providing financial assistance for opportunistic infections, home and community based care to people living with HIV/AIDS.
Strengthening effectiveness and technical, managerial, financial sustainability at National, State and Municipal levels.
Promoting collaboration amongst public, private and voluntary sector.
