Question : Gas Contracts with Australia

(a) whether the Government has successfully re-negotiated with ExxonMobil of Australia for supply of gas;
(b) If so, details thereof along with the salient features of the said deal and the extent to which our country is going to gain through the said renegotiation;
(c) whether GAIL has also re-negotiated with Cheniere Energy to get 3.5 million tonnes of LNG annually and 2.3 tonnes from Dominion Energy and if so, the details thereof; and
(d) whether the Government/GAIL proposes to renegotiate with United States of America firms or likely to cancel LNG contracts and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether India and Australia have formed/proposes to form panel and signed a Memorandum of Understanding on supply of cheap LNG for power plants in the country and if so, the details thereof;

MINISTER OF PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS (SHRI DHARMENDRA PRADHAN)
(a) & (b) Petronet LNG Limited has an Agreement for purchase of 1.44 MTPA of LNG from Mobil Australia Resources Company (LNG Supplier), an affiliate of ExxonMobil Company, for a period of 20 years, from Gorgon project. Petronet has been under active discussions with the LNG Supplier regarding certain commercial aspects under its Agreement and has reached an understanding related to the subject contract with ExxonMobil.
(c) & (d): GAIL has held number of discussions with Cheniere Energy (Sabine Terminal) and Dominion Cove Point LNG LP (DCP Terminal), for re-negotiation of the contracts. The discussions have been held at the working level as well as management level. The most recent discussions with both the parties were held during the month of November, 2017.
(e) : While there is no MoU between the Governments of India and Australia, Petronet LNG Limited has an Agreement for purchase of 1.44 MTPA of LNG from Mobil Australia Resources.
