Question : Illegal Construction around Monuments

(a) whether the Government has identified the monuments which are vulnerable to climatic change and air pollution in various States of the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof, State/UT-wise including Gujarat;

(c) whether the Government is aware that several heritage sites/buildings in the country including those in the National Capital Region are being damaged due to illegal constructions near/around them and if so, the
details thereof along with the norms fixed by the Government for construction near/around such monuments, building/site-wise and State-wise; and

(d) whether the Government has received any complaint in this regard; and

(e) if so, the details thereof along with the preventive steps taken/proposed to be taken in this regard as well as to preserve the heritage sites/buildings?

(a) & (b) Yes Sir. The State/UT-wise details of identified monuments including Gujarat are given in annexure.

(c) No Sir. No such incident of damage to heritage sites/buildings due to illegal constructions, near/around them, has been reported so far. The norms for construction near/around the monument includes prohibited area upto 100 meters from protected limit where no new construction is allowed and regulated area upto 200 meters beyond prohibited area where construction is allowed with prior permission from National Monument Authority.

(d) & (e) No such complaint has been received so far. The preventive steps includes regular monitoring of heritage sites and action against defaulters as per Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment & Validation) Act, 2010.
