Question : PROCUREMENT OF ADDITIONAL EMUS AND RAKES

(a) whether additional EMUs have been procured for metre gauge suburban system in Tamilnadu during the last 17 years;

(b) if not, the number of rakes available on MG suburban service of Chennai;

(c) the shortage of rakes as compared to original position;

(d) whether the Government have proposed to change the old rakes and add more new rakes; and

(e) if so, the details thereof ?

(b): Does not arise.

(c): There is no shortage.

(d) & (e): Yes, Sir. These MG rakes shall be changed by BG EMUs in phased manner due to conversion of gauge in Chennai Beach-Tambaram-Chengalpattu section as per traffic requirements.
