With the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G), on 2nd October, 2014, the incentive to eligible beneficiaries for construction of toilet was increased from Rs. 10000 to Rs. 12000. The SBM(G) programme emphasizes behavioural change and is not a supply-driven construction led programme. Rs. 12,000 per toilet provided under the programme is an incentive amount and not a reimbursement of the cost of the toilet, which may be lower or higher than the incentive, depending upon several factors.
