Question : MONITORING AND REGULATION OF ENGINEERING COLLEGES .



(a) the mechanism in place to monitor and regulate the establishment and functioning of Engineering Colleges in the States;

(b) whether the State Governments have also any control on monitoring and regulation of the activities of the Engineering Colleges in their States:

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the details of annual intake of students in Engineering Colleges in the respective States during the last three years and the current year, year-wise and State-wise?

(a) : The establishment of Engineering colleges in the States is regulated through “All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) (Grant of Approval for Technical Institutions) Regulation, 2010” and the post approval functioning of these institutions is monitored through the compliance reports and mandatory disclosures submitted by the institutions as per the provision in the said regulations.

(b) & (c): As per the AICTE (Grant of Approval for Technical Institutions) Regulation, 2010” the State Government / UT Administration may forward their views regarding establishment of a college or granting increase intake/ extension of approval for consideration of the AICTE and its Regional Committees.

(d) : The year-wise and state-wise details of annual intake of student in engineering colleges during the last three years and current year as provided by AICTE, is at Annexure.
