(a) whether the Government has received any proposal for doubling of the railway track constructed over the Brahmaputra river passing through Guwahati;
(b) if so, the reaction of the Government thereto; and
(c) whether any action has been initiated for the doubling of the railway track constructed over the Brahmaputra river passing through Guwahati and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) to (c): Based on public demand and Railways’ requirement, Saraighat Bridge doubling project (including double line from Agthori to Kamakhya) over river Brahmaputra has been included in Budget 2017-18 subject to requisite Government approvals. Detailed investigations for important bridge have been taken up. As existing single line bridge is Rail-cum-Road bridge, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has been requested to give their consent for cost sharing of proposed Rail-cum-Road bridge for doubling.
