Question : Telephone Advisory Committees

(a) whether Telecom/Telephone Advisory Committees (TACs) are formed by the Government in districts across the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof including the functions of these committees along with the details of the meetings held by the them annually so far;

(c) whether the Government is aware that no meetings were held in many districts during the two year tenure of many TACs and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) whether the Government proposes to improve the functioning of TACs and if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (c) Sir, Telephone Advisory Committees (TACs) are constituted by the Government at telecom district level in BSNL and MTNL. There are 358 TACs in BSNL and MTNL. The functions of TACs are as under:

(i) To work as interface between telephone consumers and BSNL/MTNL
(ii) To give the public a confidence that their grievances are properly represented as well as redressed
(iii) To educate public/bring awareness among telephone consumers about the various services provided by BSNL/MTNL
(iv) To suggest measures for efficiency.

TAC meetings could not be conducted in some of the telecom districts during last two years mainly due to Covid-19 Pandemic. The details of the number of meetings held in various TACs during the last two years in BSNL and MTNL follows:

(d) There is no such proposal under consideration at present as the scope of existing functions of TACs is wide enough.
