Question : Indo-US Relation

(a) whether the recent nullification of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir has had any adverse effects on Indo-US relations;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether before implementing nullification of Article 370 in Jammu & Kashmir, the UN Council should have been consulted since it is an international issue and not an internal matter; and

(d) if so, the views of UN Council on this issue?

(a) to (d) Matters related to the Constitution of India are sovereign in nature, and do not concern other countries or international organizations.

Government has proactively briefed members of the international community, including interlocutors in the U.S., regarding the rationale behind the abrogation of Article 370 and the normalization of the situation in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir.

The U.S. Government has shown understanding regarding the security challenges in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and, from time to time, has acknowledged the steps taken to restore normalcy.
