(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) if not, the reasons therefor ?

Answer given by the minister

ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE OF FISHERIES, ANIMAL HUSBANDRY AND DAIRYING
(SHRI SANJEEV KUMAR BALYAN)

(a) and (b): No Sir, there is no decision to start a college of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry in Ladakh by the Central Government.

(c) Establishment of veterinary colleges is as per requirement of trained veterinary manpower in the State/UT concerned. However, as per the recommendations of National Commission on Agriculture, 1976, there shall be one veterinarian for every 5000 cattle units. As per 20th livestock census data, 184192 cattle units are present in Union Territory of Ladakh thereby having a calculated requirement of only 37 Veterinarians against a total of 61 registered Veterinarians working in the Department of Animal & Sheep Husbandry in the Union Territory of Ladakh.
