Question : CONSTRUCTION OF DAM ON POLAR RIVER

(a) whether the Government has any proposal to provide financial assistance for construction of dams on the Polar river in Tamil Nadu; and

(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b) Irrigation is a State subject and the planning, execution, funding, operation and maintenance of irrigation projects are primarily the responsibility of the State Governments based on their priorities. The Central Government is providing Central Assistance under Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme for completion of irrigation projects, proposed by the State Governments, as per the guidelines of the programme. No proposal from the State Government of Tamil Nadu for assistance under the programme has been received for construction of dams on the Polar river in Tamil Nadu.
