Question : AMOUNT SPENT ON SSI



(a) the amount spent on Small Scale Industrial Sector so far alongwith the percentage of sick industries out of total number of Small Scale Industries;

(b) whether the percentage of sick industries has increased during the year 2000-2001; and

(c) if so, the details thereof?

(a): As per the latest data compiled by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the number of sick small scale industries as at the end of March, 2000 were 3,04,235 with outstanding bank loans of Rs. 4608.43 crores. The extent of sickness in terms of percentage to total SSI units as on 31-3.2000 works out to 9.5%.

(b) & (c): No, Sir. The percentage of sick small scale industries has decreased from 9.9% at the end of March, 1999 to 9.5% at the end of March, 2000.
