Question : NATIONAL CROP STATISTICS CENTRE



(a) whether the Government has finalised setting up of the National Crop Statistics Centre (NCSC) as recommended by the Vaidyanathan Committee;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether it has started its operation;

(d) if so, the role and responsibility of the NCSC; and

(e) if not, the time by which NCSC is likely to start functioning?

(a) to (e): The Government had constituted an Expert Committee on Agricultural Statistics under the Chairmanship of Prof. A. Vaidyanathan. The Committee has submitted its report to the Government. One of the main recommendations of the Committee is to set up a National Crop Statistics Centre (NCSC) as an autonomous, professional organization in the Ministry of Agriculture for generating crop area and yield estimates at state and national levels. The Government has constituted a Steering Committee under the Chairmanship of Special Secretary, Department of Agriculture & Cooperation, to look into the implementation of the recommendations of the Expert Committee.
