(a) whether New India Insurance Company has paid the sum insured under crop insurance scheme to
the flood affected farmers during 2008-09 including the farmers of Uttar Pradesh;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) if not, the reasons therefor; and
(d) the steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) to (d):- The New India Assurance Company Ltd. does not provide any coverage for Crop
Insurance. However, Agriculture Insurance Company Ltd. (AICL) is implementing the National
Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) and under this scheme, an amount of Rs. 597.97 lakh has
already been disbursed in 14 flood affected districts of Uttar Pradesh for Kharif - 08 season
during 2008-09.
