Question : Norms for Airlines to Fly Abroad

(a) the procedure laid down for allowing private Airlines to fly abroad;

(b) the number of airlines permitted to fly abroad at present; and

(c) the details of fleet of each airline?

(a): As per AIC 08 of 2009 issued by DGCA, any Indian air transport undertaking shall be eligible to apply for operation of international scheduled air transport services, if it is in possession of -

(i) a valid permit for operation of scheduled air transport services;

(ii) a minimum of five years experience of continuous operation of domestic scheduled air transport services; and

(iii) at least twenty aircraft in its fleet.

(b): At present four airlines operate scheduled international flights viz.
Air India and its subsidiary Air India Express, Jet Airways, Spice Jet and
Indigo.

(c): The details of fleet owned by the Air India including Air India
Express, Jet Airways, Spice Jet, Indigo are as under: Air India & Air India Express - 125, Jet Airways - 106, Spice Jet - 43 and Indigo - 107.
