Question : Commercial Truck Drivers

(a) whether the Government has recorded the number of deaths of commercial truck drivers due to road accidents during the last three years and the current year;
(b) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor;
(c) whether the Government has any data regarding the number of FIRs that have been lodged in such road accidents involving commercial trucks and if so, the details thereof, State-wise;
(d) whether the Government has considered any measures for compulsory social security and life insurance schems for commercial truck drivers in the country and if so, the details thereof; and
(e) whether the Government proposes minimum wages for commercial truck drivers and if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b) The ministry analyses the road safety on the basis of road accidents data received from States/UTs. The number of road accidents and persons killed in such accidents in which impacting vehicles are trucks/lorries during the last three years are as under : -

(c) No such information is maintained by the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways as Law and Order is a State Subject.

(d) & (e) The Occupational Safety, Health and Working conditions code, 2020 (37 of 2020) Act passed by the Parliament provides for occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions etc. of motor transport workers including Truck drivers.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has taken various steps in the interest of Drivers including Truck Drivers such as Wayside Amenities, Food Court, Truck Parking Bays etc. on National Highways.
