Question : New IIMs

(a) whether the Government had sanctioned Seven new Indian Institutes of Management
(IIMs) during 2015-16 and 2016-17 for being set up and to start their functioning;
(b) if so, the funds allocated for this project so far, IIM-wise;
(c) the details regarding the total number of students enrolled so far in these seven new IIMs;
(d) the total number of students studying in these seven new IIMs and other IIMs in the
country;
(e) whether the Government has received any proposal to increase the number of seats in
IIMs; and
(f) if so, the details thereof?

(e) & (f): The Government has received proposals from IIM Ahmedabad and IIM
Bangalore for loan through Higher Education Financing Agency (HEFA) for creating
infrastructure for increasing the student strength. By creation of additional infrastructure, IIM
Ahmedabad has proposed to increase its capacity by 380 students, while IIM Bangalore has
proposed to increase its capacity by 425 students.
