Question : Lok Adalats

(a) whether the banks organize Lok Adalats for early disposal of pending cases regarding bank loans;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the number of Lok Adalats organized during each of the last three years and the current year, bank-wise;
(c) the number of pending cases disposed in these Lok Adalats during the said period, bank and year-wise; and
(d) the steps proposed to be taken by the Government for early disposal of pending cases?

THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF FINANCE


(a) Yes, Banks are organizing as well as participating in Lok Adalats.
(b) & (c) The details of Lok Adalats organized and the number of Lok Adalats organized during each of the last three years and the current year, bank-wise is at Annexure-I.
(d) Apart from Lok Adalats, the cases regarding bank loans are resolved through DRT/DRAT mechanism also. Following steps have been initiated to improve the performance of DRTs and DRATs for time bound disposal of cases:
1. Establishment of six new DRTs at Bangalore, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ernakulam, Hyderabad and Siliguri.
2. Scanning and digitization of legacy data.
3. Collection of MIS data.
4. Implementation of e-filing in DRTs.
5. Delegation of administrative and financial powers to DRTs.
