Question : SELF SUFFICIENCY AMONG SCHEDULED TRIBES COMMUNITY



(a) the details of steps taken by the Government to make the Scheduled Tribes Community economically self-dependent;

(b) the details of the loans sanctioned by the Finance and Development Corporation during the last three years;

(c) the purpose of establishing tribal shops; and

(d) the achievements made therof so far?

(a) The Ministry of Tribal Affairs implements several Central Sector/Centrally Sponsored Schemes/Programmes for the socio-economic development of tribals in all the States/Union Territories. The details of these schemes are available in the Ministry`s Annual Report 2003-04 . These schemes help in enhancement of quality of life of tribal people, infrastructure development etc in tribal areas.

(b) The details of the loans sanctioned by the National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) during the last three years are as given below:

(c) & (d) The Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd. (TRIFED), an apex level Cooperative Society functioning under this Ministry has set- up a TRIBES shop at 9, Mahadev Road, New Delhi with the objective of providing remunerative prices to the tribal people through the retail marketing of their Handicrafts and development thereof. Upto October 2004, the TRIBES shop has registered sales worth Rs. 175.58.
