(a) whether the Railway proposes to place black box in 500 trains on the lines of the aircrafts within next ten months which would play an important role in emergency situation of accidents;
(b) if so, the details thereof; and
(c) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a)and(b) Indian Railway has started installing Loco Cab Audio Video Recording system (LCVAR)/ Crew Voice/Video Recording System (LCVR/CVVRS) in Diesel and Electric locomotives. This system, which is similar to Black Box, provides invaluable data to investigators which helps them in understanding the sequence of events leading up to an accident and for identifying operational issues and human factors.
32 locomotives (25 Diesel and 7 Electric) have already been provided with LCVRs/CVVRSs. Further, Purchase Order for 480 Nos. CVVRSs has already been issued.
