Question : AMENDMENTS TO PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS ACT, 1960



(a) whether medical tests are conducted on animals for saving the life of the human being and these tests are to be conducted only when the success rate is expected to be 95 percent;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government proposes to amend the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960 for saving the lives of the animals on whom these tests are conducted resulting in their death; and

(d) if so, the details of the amendments proposed to be made in this regard?

(a & b) While the medical tests are conducted on animals for saving the life of human beings, success rate is determined as per the guidelines of Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) on case to case basis.

(c) No proposal for amendment of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (PCA) Act, 1960 has been formulated.

(d) Question does not arise.
