Question : ARMY HOSPITALS



(a) the number of Army Hospitals at present in the country;

(b) whether the Government proposes to open new Army Hospitals in the country; and

(c) if so, the details thereof during the last three years and the current year, State-wise particularly in Andhra Pradesh and the amount allocated for each hospital and the amount spent so far?

(a) There are 111 Army Hospitals and 91 Field Hospitals in the country. Besides, there are 10 Naval Hospitals and 12 Air Force Hospitals.

(b) & (c): Hospitals are opened based on operational requirements both in time of peace and in war / Counter Insurgency operations. The strength of troops, nature of operations & terrain and chain of evacuation determine the kind of medical facility. Two Army Hospitals at Gopalpur (Odisha) and Hissar (Haryana) and one Naval Hospital at Ezhimala (Kerala) were opened during last three years.
