KODIYAN, SHRI P. K., B. A. [C.P.I—Kerala, Adoor. (Res. Sch. Castes), 1980]  s. of Shri Pandarathil Kodiyan; b. at Elankunnapuzha Village, Ernakulam District, September 22, 1923; ed. at Narakkal High School and Maharaja's College, Ernakulam: m. Smt. B. S. Cicily, February 4, 1958; 2 s. and 2 d.: Social Worker; actively participated in Paliyam Satyagraha for securing the rights of Harijans and backward classes to walk along the public road running through the feudal Paliyam Estate in erstwhile Cochin State in 1946; Secretary, Ernakulam District Committee of Communist Party of India, 1954-57; Member, (i) Kerala State Executive Committee of Communist Party of India, 1957-62, (ii) Communist Party of India, National Council, 1961-64 and again at present; Member, Central Executive Committee, C.P.I.; Secretary and General-Secretary, All-India Agricultural Workers' Union, from 1972-74 and 1975 respectively; Vice President, Trade Union International of Agricultural, Forestry and Plantation Workers since 1975; Member, (i) Second Lok Sabha, 1957-62; Sixth Lok Sabha, 1977-79; and (iii) Public Accounts Committee, 1977-78.   Social activities:  Uplift of tribals, Harijans and other weaker sections; participated actively in organizing the Harijans of former Cochin State, organized the first Harijan Students Federation in the State; engaged in organising the Agricultural workers and other weaker sections of the society.   Favourite pastime and recreation:  Reading.   Special interests:  To study the evolution of Caste System in India and the problems arising therefrom, rural development and literacy.   Sports and Clubs:  Indoor games.  Travels abroad:  Bulgaria, 1964, U.S.S.R., 1964, 1970, 1974; 1975; Greece, 1964; Czechoslovakia, 1976, Algeria, France and Poland.   Permanent address:  Communist Party of India, Adoor, Quilon District, Kerala.
