The Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs & Sports, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal has said that Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) does not provide financial assistance to voluntary organizations.

He said, the Government had launched a year-long youth-awakening programme, namely ‘Punarjagaran’ across the country from the four corners of India viz. Leh (J&K), Okha (Gujarat), Kanyakumari (Tamil Nadu) and Roing (Arunachal Pradesh) on 2nd October, 2014, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.

The Punarjagaran Programme culminated on birth anniversary of Shri Deen Dayal Upadhyay, at his birth place Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) on 25th September, 2015 with grand celebration in which about 10,000 youth participated.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha today the Minister said, the objective of the programme was to create a youth movement in the country, involving the youth in nation-building activities like spreading the message of peace and universal brotherhood, promoting the spirit of volunteerism, organising Shramadaan activities, campaigns against social evils, creating awareness about Government programmes and initiatives like Jan Dhan Yojana, Swachh Bharat Mission, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Andolan, etc. The Programme directly covered about 10,000 villages in 100 selected District on the 4 routes.
