Wrestling will be a new addition to the Commonwealth Games, 2010

The Commonwealth Games, 2010 are proposed to be held in 18 disciplines. Out of these the following 15 disciplines have already been approved:-

Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rugby 7’s, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, weightlifting and Wrestling.

The inclusion of the following three disciplines is subject to the approval of Executive Board of the Commonwealth Games Federation which is to meet in October-November, 2006:

Archery, Billiards & Snooker and Tennis.

Of the discipline already approved, the discipline of Wrestling will be a new addition to the Commonwealth Games, 2010 since it was not included in the Commonwealth Games, 2006.

This information was given in the Rajya Sabha by the Minister of Panchayati Raj and Youth Affairs & Sports Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar in a written reply today.
