Urea for states

Urea is the only fertilizer which is under partial movement distribution and price control of the Government. During the just concluded Kharif 2006 season, about 125.04 lakh tones of urea was made available to the States against the assessed requirement of 122.37 lakh tones sales during the season were reported to be about 113.65 lakh tones. An unsold stock of about 11.39 lakh tones was available as on Septembers 30, 2006. The Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers, Shri Ram Vilas Paswan has written to all Chief Ministers to take steps against black marketers and defaulters as the primary responsibility in this regard is that of the State Governments.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Chemicals & Fertilizers, Shri B.K. Handique, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
