Umbrella Scheme on Technology Vision 2020 Projects in Mission Mode

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved the implementation of “Umbrella Scheme on Technology Vision 2020 Projects in Mission Mode” in the six identified areas, namely,

(i) Agriculture Agro Food Processing;

(ii) Road Construction & Transportation Equipment;

(iii) Upgradation of Textile Machinery/Industry;

(iv) Health Care Services and Herbal/Natural Products;

(v) Upgradation of Science & Engineering Colleges (Mission REACH);

(vi) Targeted programmes in other important areas such as Electric Power, Hydrogen Technology Programme, Uttaranchal, Systems of Rural Connectivity and Integrated Science & Technology Programmes for Rural Development.

For undertaking the above programmes in six identified areas, CCEA also approved the expenditure of Rs.347.54 crore upto 2006-07 for the X Plan Period (including Rs.82.54 crore released for the years 2000-01 and 2001-02).

The implementation of the Scheme will benefit in strengthening the technological capabilities of the nation in each sector/area; imparting skills to the rural masses and unemployed youth; bridging the technological gap in harnessing the country’s potential areas towards national capacity/capability building in technology development towards technology interventions/development in frontier areas; making India globally competitive by producing world class quality products/process; and realization of a Developed India by the year 2020.
