The river Ganga from Haldia to Allahabad has already been declared as a national waterway and basic infrastructural facilities such as navigational channel, terminals, navigational aids etc. are being provided for facilitating inland water transport. Floating terminals have been provided at Haldia, Kolkata, Karagola, Bhagalpur, Patna, Varanasi and Allahabad and permanent terminals at Haldia, Kolkata, Pakur and Farakka. Navigational aids for day navigation are also available. A fixed schedule cargo transportation service is also being operated between Haldia and Pantna.

This information was given in the Lok Sabha today in a written reply by the Minister of Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Shri T.R. Baalu.
