Training Capsule for Un Military Contingent Officers inaugurated

The Sixth United Nations Military Contingent Junior Officers Capsule was inaugurated here to-day at the United Services Institution of India – Centre for UN Peacekeeping (USI-CUNPK).

The three-week long capsule is being attended by 35 Indian Officers from the three services. These officers have been empanelled as UN Military Contingent Officers for the on going UN missions in Lebanon, Congo, Sudan and Eritrea – Ethiopia. In addition 17 officers from Australia, Botswana, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Fiji, Ghana, Japan, Kenya, Kyrgyzstan, Lesotho, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Senegal, Singapore, Sri Lanka and UK are also attending the course that concludes on 21 July 2006.

Inaugurating the course, Brig BV Nair, Deputy Director General Staff Duties reminded the participants that they were not only the ambassadors of their respective countries but also of the United Nations. As such they would be required to exercise utmostrestrained in their private and public lives while discharging their duties.

Since its inception in September 2000, the CUNPK has conducted a number of courses, training programmes and national and International Seminars for personnel nominated for UN duties.
