Shri Arjun Singh takes stock of educational institutions in tsunami hit areas

The Human Resource Development Minister Shri Arjun Singh held a meeting of senior officials of his Ministry and the autonomous organizations/institutions under MHRD here today to discuss urgent measures required to be taken in the wake of the severe devastation caused by Tsunami in the coastal areas. Shri Singh directed that the damage caused to educational and other institutions related to the Ministry including anganwadi infrastructure should be assessed on a priority basis and if found necessary, appropriate assistance to be agencies concerned should be provided expeditiously. He directed the Secretaries of the departments to personally monitor and take remedial measures.

It was decided at the meeting that all staff members of MHRD and the autonomous organizations will contribute one day’s salary to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. Shri Singh donated Rs. 51,000/- as his personal contribution to the PM’s Relief Fund.

Representatives of organizations who attended today’s meeting included the University Grants Commission, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Sangathan, National Council for Educational Research and Training, All India Council for Technical Education and National Council for Teachers’ Education.
