An aggregate wind power capacity of 277 MW has been set-up in Tamil Nadu during April-October, 2004. So far, wind power capacity of 1640 MW has been set-up in the State. Wind power projects are set-up as commercial projects through private investment and are not sanctioned for any State by the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources. These projects are cleared by the respective Electricity Board and the State Government depending on the technical feasibility including availability of wind resource at the given site.
This information was given by Shri Vilas Muttemwar, Minister of State for Non-Conventional Energy Sources (Independent Charge) in the Lok Sabha today.
