Schemes to Combat bad Weather

There has been unprecedented heavy rains, cloud bursts, landslides, etc. in the hilly areas of the country especially in Uttarakhand The State of Uttarakhand received about 40% higher seasonal rainfall in 2010 which can be attributed to the yearly variability of monsoon rainfall.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has taken steps to enhance its observational network for monitoring abnormal weather patterns and upgrading its forecasting capabilities. This would enable advance warning to be provided to tackle the impacts of the adverse/extreme weather phenomena.

Minister of Human Resource Development, Minister of Science and Technology, Minister of Earth Sciences and Minister of Telecommunication and Information Technology Shri Kapil Sibal replied to a question by Shri Satpal Maharaj in Lok Sabha in a written reply today.
