Scheme to strengthen State Channelising Agencies ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF NATIONAL MINORITIES DEVELOPMENT & FINANCE CORPORATION

The Secretary Minority Affairs, Shri M. N. Prasad while inaugurating the one day Annual Conference of the State Channelising Agencies of National Minorities Development & Finance Corporation (NMDFC) here in New Delhi has said that the Government is contemplating a significant role for NMDFC in the revamped “15 Point Programme of the Prime Minister”. The Government is committed to provide higher allocations to NMDFC in order to substantially increase the coverage.

Shri Prasad also informed that the participants representing the State government viz. Secretaries In-charge and Managing Directors of the State Channelising Agencies that the Central Government has taken cognizance of the deficiencies of the State Channelising Agencies. Accordingly a scheme has been launched for “Strengthening the State Channelising Agencies: in the plan for the current financial year. The scheme is being finalized and would be introduced very shortly.

He also said that the Government has formed a “High Level Expert Committee” of the eminent bankers and financial sector experts to review the functioning of NMDFC. The committee has already submitted their report to the Ministry of Minority Affairs. The report is being processed and decision on recommendations is being finalized.

The Conference was attended by Principal Secretaries of 9 States and the Managing Directors of the State Channelising Agencies of 32 States/UTs. The conference was convened for finalizing the Annual Allocations for the respective States/UTs for the current financial year i.e. 2007-08.
