The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved the “Transmission System associated with Parbati-III Hydro Electric Project” of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) at a total estimated cost of Rs.557.24 crore. It will be completed within 42 months from the date of investment approval matching with the commissioning of generation project.
The transmission project would facilitate evacuation of power from Parbati-III Project and further dispersal to various beneficiaries of Northern Region.
BACKGROUND:
The National Hydro-Electric Power Corporation (NHPC) is setting up 520 MW (4X130 MW) Hydro Electric Power Generation Project at Parbati-III in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh. The Generation Project is scheduled for commissioning in November, 2010.
Considering the constraints in hilly terrain and need to conserve Right-of-Way in eco-sensitive zone, a composite transmission system has been evolved by PGCIL in association with Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and Northern Region beneficiaries, for evacuation of Power from Parbati-III, Parbati-II and Koldam Hydro Electric Projects (HEPs). With a view to optimize investments, the elements of composite transmission system have been segregated in such a manner that transmission systems associated with Parbati-III, Parbati-II and Koldam HEPs are developed matching with the phased development of different generation projects. The investment approvals in respect of Transmission System associated with Koldam HEP and Parbati-II HEP have already been issued in September, 2005 and December, 2005 respectively.
