Rs. 117.64 crore Released to States to Promote Production of Nutri-Cereals

NATIONAL SEMINAR ON STRATEGIC USE OF PESTICIDES TO ENHANCE AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION AND FOOD SECURITY INAUGURATED

 

Rs. 117.64 crore been released to States to promote production of -cereals in the country. Total allocation for the scheme for 2011-12 is Rs. 300 crore.

The scheme has been launched in this fiscal to promote higher production of , , and other millets, upgrade their processing technologies and create awareness about their health benefits. It is a sub-scheme under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana. Itaims at providing market-linked production support to 10 lakh millet farmers in 1,000 blocks covering about 25, 000 villages in arid and semi-arid zones of the country. The scheme also intends to help improve nutritional security and increase feed and fodder supply for livestock.
