The Commission had announced the schedule of elections for Lok Sabha and four Legislative Assemblies on Sunday, February, 29, 2004 and had fixed April 20, 2004 as the day of poll in the State of Tripura where there are two Parliamentary Constituencies. A representation has been received by the Commission from the State Government and other political parties informing that April 20, 2004 happens to be an important tribal festival in the State to celebrate ‘Baba Gariyapuja’.
The Commission after taking into account all relevant factors, has decided that the day of poll in respect of Tripura will now be April 22, 2004 (Thursday). The dates for filing of nominations, scrutiny, last date of withdrawal of nominations and day of counting shall remain the same as mentioned in the Press Note of the Commission, dated February 29, 2004.
