The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) today approved Rs.828.66 crore for the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) programme for the X Plan. This would also include an expenditure of Rs.226 crore already incurred in the first two years of the X Plan.
The ten key deliverables identified by the ICMR during X Plan period are:
i) Complementing National Health Policy by formulating a Health Research Policy;
ii) Product Development and Evaluation;
iii) Conducting fundamental and strategic research;
iv) Harness and use new and emerging technologies to find solutions to health issue;
v) Operationalisation of research outcomes;
vi) Data bases/registries;
vii) Conducting studies related to environmental stability;
viii) Tackling looming epidemic of life-style diseases;
ix) Improving reproductive health and nutrition; and
x) Addressing health issues of underprivileged sections of society.
The approval of X Five Year Plan programme of ICMR will help in the augmentation of its own institution/research centres and undertaking focused research in the identified areas.
