Shri Bhupender Singh, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Northern Circle, held a statutory inquiry into the explosion in coach no. NF 98466 GS of 2391 Up Shramjeevi Express, which occurred on 28.07.2005 between Harpalganj and Koiripur railway stations of Northern Railway. As a result of the accident, 14 persons were killed and 62 were injured, 20 of them grievously.
According to the provisional findings of the Commissioner appended with his preliminary report, the accident occurred due to an explosion caused by explosive material being carried in the cabin area adjoining the toilet of coach no. NF 98466, GS second from locomotive of 2391 Up Shramjeevi Express.
