Indian Railways plan to renew 23000 KM of track during the Tenth Five-Year Plan. The cost of these works is approximately Rs. 16370 crore. Funds required to execute these works are earmarked by Parliament as part of Railway Budget annually.
During the first three years of Tenth Plan the track renewal done and expenditure incurred is as under:-

This indicates that as per present progress the target set for Tenth Year Plan will be achieved.
