The Ministry of Railways has directed the Zonal Railways to intensify marketing efforts to capture perishable parcel traffic for refrigerated vans and establish proper circuits for its utilization.
The Zonal Railways have also been asked to lease out refrigerated vans on round trip basis on fixed circuits.
The services of refrigerated vans are not being utilized fully for want of sufficient demand from the market.
There are ten refrigerated vans on Indian Railways. These vans have been designed especially and manufactured for the transportation of perishable traffic.
