Railways revenue freight exceeds target in April-December 2003

for Ministry of Railways | Date - 12-01-2004

Indian Railways transported a record all time high 407.15 Million Tonnes (MTs) of revenue earning freight during April-December 2003 of the current financial year, compared to 380.46 MTs of such traffic during the corresponding period of the previous year, exceeding it by 26.69 MTs. The target of 396.14 MTs upto December 2003 was, thus, exceeded by 11.01 MTs.

The performance of revenue freight traffic in excess of the target indicates buoyancy in the core sector of the national economy.

The target of revenue freight for the current financial year is 540 MTs. Indian Railways are poised to exceed it by over 550 MTs.

During December, 2003, the Railways carried 48.88 MTs of revenue earning freight, exceeding the target of 46.75 MTs by 2.13 MTs. This represented an increase of 2.87 MTs over the corresponding month of the previous year’s 46.01 MTs.
