Railways reduce service charges for e-tickets

With A view to encourage e-ticket usage, Indian Railways have decided to reduce the e-ticket service charges from 1st July 2007. Minimum charge of Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for e-tickets for Sleeper Class has been reduced from Rs. 15 to Rs 10 per ticket. Besides these minimum charges, the other additional charges per passenger will continue as at present. Service charges for issuing e-ticket for Rail Travellers Service Agents (RTSA)/Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI)/Indian Association of Tour Agents (IATA) members, Petrol Pumps, ATMs, Electronic Point of Sale (e-pos) and e-seva counters shall be reduced from Rs. 15/- to Rs 10/- per ticket for Sleeper/2S classes and from Rs. 25/- to Rs. 20/- per ticket for AC classes.

IRCTC who has been authorized to expand e-ticketing facility to outside agencies, has appointed more than 8000 agents for booking e-tickets, which include RTSAs, RTAs, GSAs, members of IATA & TAAI, petrol pumps of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited, District Magistrate and Deputy Commissioners of State Governments, e-seva centres of Andhra Pradesh Government, Electronic Point of Sale (e-pos) through ICICI.

For the benefit of passengers using e-ticketing facility, arrangements are also being made for issuing e-tickets through ATMs from various stations over Indian Railways. The reserved tickets will also be issued from Post Offices in near future for which the modalities have already been finalized and agreement is likely to be signed shortly.
