Railways exceed targetted production in Locos, Coaches and Axles TOTAL RAILWAY LOADING EXCEEDS TARGET BY 2.05 MILLIONS TONNES PASSENGER TRAFFIC GOES UP BY 9.01 PER CENT

Diesel Locomotive Works, Integral Coach Factory and Rail Wheel Factory, production units of Indian Railways, have exceeded the targets for February 2006 pertaining to production of locos, coaches and axles. During the cumulative period upto February 2006, CLW, DLW, ICF, RCF and RWF exceeded the respective targets of production. CLW produced 114 electric locos against the target of 114 during April 2005 to February 2006. DLW produced 135 locos against the target of 131; ICF produced 1015 coaches against the target of 991; RCF produced 1122 coaches against the target of 1089 and RWF produced 46560 axles against the target of 45008 for this period. However, the production of wheels by RWF was 106748 against the target of 108247 wheels during the same period.

The total loading by the Railways during the month of February 2006 exceeded the target by 2.05 million tonnes. During this period, the loading was also more than the target on all Railways except Eastern, Northern, North Central, South East Central and South Western Railways. The Railways carried 57.77 million tonnes of freight traffic during this period exceeding both the target as also when compared to the same period last year by 2.05 million tonnes and 7.56 million tonnes respectively.

. The total number of passengers booked during February 2006 were 464.82 million compared to 426.40 million during the same period last year, registering an increase of 9.01 per cent compared to last year. The total number of passengers booked during this period has increased on all Railways when compared to the same period last year.

During the month of February 2006, there were no accidents on Central, Eastern, North Central and South Eastern Railways. The number of accidents during the same period were less on Northern and North Frontier Railways compared to the same period last year.

The punctuality of Mail/Express trains (Broad Gauge) during February 2006 has shown improvement on all railways except Southern, South Eastern, South Western, Western and West Central Railways when compared to the same period last year.
